Wildlife

"The Dorset Resort" is home to an abundance of wildlife - Sika, Muntjac and Roe Deer, Badgers, Foxes, Rabbits, Squirrels, to name but a few.

Pheasants, Partridge, Mallards, Moorhens, Woodpeckers, Herons, Kingfishers, Dartford Warblers, Bitten, Buzzards, Kestrels are among our many bird inhabitants.

We also have a multitude of Butterfly varieties special to the Dorset Countryside. All these animal and bird photographs were taken in the grounds of "The Dorset Resort"



Walks

We have our own private Nature Trails amongst 75 acres of historic woodlands. One to four miles of magical walks surrounded by many types of trees - 500 year old Coppiced Oaks, Douglas Firs, Eucalyptus, Continental Beech, Montaray Pines, Cedar plus many, many more. The Forestry Commission stated, "this ancient woodland is a living museum" and described by one delighted visitor as "an unforgettable experience." Come along and see for yourself!




Coastal Walks


If you wish to enjoy Dorset's internationally acclaimed Coast,
there are few better ways of doing so than by walking the Jurassic Coastpath - England's only natural World Heritage Site. Enjoy a "walk through time" beyond the age of the Dinosaurs.



It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the site of special scientific interest and a special area of conservation. Enjoy the sea cliffs, ancient quarries, grasslands and coves, the wealth of wildlife habitats and stunning coastal landscapes.

Dorset is home to some truly magnificent walks!

Other fabulous walks include:

  • the timeless countryside and villages of Thomas Hardy's great novels
  • or through the ancient Wareham Forest
  • Visit Iron Age hill forts of Hambledon Hill and Hod Hill
  • Visit Milton Abbey and the truly extraordinary village of Milton Abbas
  • or the quintessentially English village of Cerne Abbas and the Cerne Giant
  • Walk the ancient town of Dorchester and visit Museums and Roman relics
  • Alternatively, why not walk the rural tracks from Bere Regis to Dorchester,
    visiting Tolpuddle with its Martyrs Museum, Athelhampton House and Gardens,
    Hardy's Cottage, Kingston Maurwood Gardens (known locally as the "Dorset Gardens Walk")
