ACTIVITIES
LOCALLY
"The
Dorset Resort" is located right in the middle of Hardy Country. There
are numerous activities for people of all ages and energy levels to enjoy.
Our
Staff will be delighted to provide you with details of all local activities
and can book them for you in advance of your visit to us, if required.

Gliding (5 mins)
The Dorset Gliding Club flies most weekends and occasional days in the
summer. Gliders can fly as high as airliners, can fly hundreds of miles
and are aeorbatic. On a clear day, you can see the Isle of Wight, Poole
Harbour and the coast from Swanage to Portland. Flying a Glider is not
difficult! Why not arrange to have a Trial Lesson, or, if your prefer,
turn up on a Saturday or Sunday for a Trial Flight (subject to suitable
weather conditions).

Clay Shooting (5 mins)
The Purbeck Shooting School is set amongst 50 acres of natural heath and
woodland and has been voted the Uk's No. 1 shooting ground. All ages and
abilities are catered for - including wheelchair access - and most of
the
sporting stands are under cover, so that all weather shooting is possible.
Booking is strongly recommended. Please ask at Main Office for further
details.

Horse
Riding (15 mins)
Enjoy the Purbeck countryside on horseback.
Go
for picturesque treks and rides across heathlands and beaches. There
are a number of Riding Schools in the vicinity where we can organise
hacks from one hour duration to pub and evening rides.
Special
children's days are a 'must' for any child wishing to experience
having their own pony for a day (school hols). Or, 'Learn to Ride'
whilst staying with us. The Purbecks offer superb hacking through
stunning countryside.

Sea Fishing (25 mins)
Organised fishing Charter Boats from Poole Harbour or
Weymouth Quay can be arranged. All Boats are fully licensed and offer
trips from a 2 hour Mackerel Fishing expedition to an all day experience,
including fishing the 'wreck'sites off the Dorset coast. Chesil Beach
is only 30mins away and offers some of the best shore sea fishing in the
country. Call us for further details.

Sailing
and Windsurfing (20
mins)
Weymouth Bay has been selected as the venue for the 2012 Olympic
Games Sailing Regatta. Some of the best sailing in England is off the
Dorset coastline. Poole Harbour is the second largest natural harbour
in the world and is home to many Sailing Clubs where you can hire everything
you need for a fabulous day's sailing. These Clubs also offer full tuition
for people wishing to take up this exhilarating sport. Windsurfing Clubs
also abound in the area where, again, all equipment can be hired.

Swimming When on holiday, everyone loves to go swimming. In Dorset,
we promise you will not be disappointed. We enjoy the benefit of numerous
Blue Flag beaches from Weymouth
to Swanage to Poole. All the beaches boast safe bathing, the majority
have Lifeguards and defined safe bathing areas. It is an ideal situation
for children of all ages to learn to swim or improve their skills. We
can also arrange for you to use the indoor Swimming Pool at the Springfield
Country Hotel - 10 mins. away on the outskirts of Wareham. This Hotel
is a Corporate Partner of "The Dorset Resort" and offers our
Guests discounted rates.

Cycleways
(10 mins)
If you really want to get to know Dorset, then cycling around this
beautiful county is an ideal way to do so.
Around "The Dorset Resort" we have
all types of cycling opportunities - mountain bike around the pathways
of "The Resort," or, cycle the extensive cycle paths that
run through the historic Wareham Forest.
Alternatively,
venture into the stunning Hardy countryside or join the many routes
of the Purbeck Cycleways - trips from 5 miles to 100 miles abound.

for details of bike hire.

Sea Cruises (30 mins)
Sea Cruises operate daily from Swanage, Weymouth and Poole. The "Waverley"
sails from Swanage and offers day trips all along the Dorset and Hampshire
coastline. Visit Wareham on a two
hour cruise that takes in the River Frome and goes into Poole Harbour.
There are numerous Cruise Ships operating from Poole Quay with one hour
trips around the Harbour and Brownsea Island, to all day trips to the
Channel Islands. Many trips include an on-board commentary on all the
places of interest that you will pass and, of course, have a bar and refreshments
for the complete relaxation experience. For further details, please enquire
